System shock 2 research levels1/31/2024 ![]() ![]() This is the meticulous work of one Mark Valentine, having taken him a couple of months to achieve it, and it's only his second crack at Source map-making, having been inspired by the What If? shots of BioShock in the Cryengine. It's just lovely to see this sort of thing and think 'oh, imagine.' from time to time, not to mention the simple pleasure of seeing familiar sights in a new context. Nothing may happen, as this is such a huge technical challenge - if Black Mesa Source take this long to get anywhere, I dread to think what a full-on Shock 2 remake would involve. After making it through the Medical level, the Hacker has to navigate through the Research Labs as soon as possible before SHODAN fires the laser towards Earth. Though he hopes it'll be "the catalyst that gets a dedicated group together to do a full remake, but we'll see what happens." Research Labs is the second level that is part of the first Laser Mission of System Shock Remake. It's just one modder doing a proof of concept map/video rather than being a concerted effort to remake Shock 2. As such, whatever comes of this project it can't ultimately look like this. ![]() This is not System Shock 2's game elements in the source engine, it's simply the first level recreated in Source, with original assets presumably naughtily extracted to do so. Important qualifiers before you get over-excited by that headline! ![]()
